Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has expressed support for the Rainbow Coalition being championed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Aiyedatiwa’s position comes despite the reported opposition of some All Progressives Congress governors to the proposed multi-party coalition.
The APC governors, led by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, had reportedly resolved to distance themselves from the coalition, arguing that such an arrangement could affect the political interests of party members seeking elective positions.
However, speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, Aiyedatiwa said there was nothing wrong with political parties and groups forming a coalition, particularly if the objective was to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The Ondo governor said he had no issue with Wike and maintained that the FCT minister had supported his emergence as governor despite belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party at the time.
“The Rainbow Coalition led by Wike, there’s nothing wrong with having a coalition. If the Rainbow Coalition is supporting President Tinubu, what is wrong with that?
“I don’t have any problem with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, but in my state, it’s APC all the way. I have a relationship with Wike.
“He supported me when I ran for governor under the APC, despite being a PDP member. He didn’t support the PDP candidate at the time,” Aiyedatiwa said.

The governor’s comments highlight differing positions among political actors within the governing APC and its wider political network over the proposed coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
While Aiyedatiwa maintained his commitment to the APC in Ondo State, he indicated that he had no objection to Wike’s coalition if its activities were directed towards supporting Tinubu’s re-election.
