The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a security guard, Emmanuel Ojo, who allegedly fled to Ogun State after stealing two generators worth N950,000 from his employer in Akure.
Ojo, according to the police, was employed as a security guard by a resident of Alagbaka Extension, Akure, before allegedly taking advantage of his position to steal a Fireman generator and a Honda generator belonging to his employer.
The incident was reported at the ‘A’ Division Police Station, Akure, by the employer, identified as Ogunyinka.
Following the complaint, detectives commenced an investigation and gathered intelligence indicating that the suspect had left Ondo State and travelled to Ogun State in an attempt to evade arrest.
The police said detectives subsequently tracked Ojo to Ogun State, where he was arrested.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to the offence and provided investigators with information regarding the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the two generators.
The command said the suspect was subjected to further investigation before being charged to court in accordance with the law.
Confirming the development in a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the arrest followed the command’s intelligence-driven investigation into the reported theft.
The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, commended the detectives involved in tracking down the suspect, praising their prompt response and intelligence gathering.
Ohagwu said the command would continue to pursue suspects involved in criminal activities, regardless of where they fled after allegedly committing offences in Ondo State.
He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that suspects are brought before the appropriate authorities.
The police commissioner urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or criminal incidents to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency communication channels.
