African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has said he would not travel outside Nigeria for medical treatment if elected president in 2027.
Sowore made the declaration on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he spoke about his proposed approach to governance.
The AAC candidate said he would be willing to accept whatever medical outcome might arise from an illness that could not be treated within Nigeria.
“Any sickness that I can’t treat in Nigeria when I become president should better kill me. I can tell you that for free,” he said.
Sowore also said he would not use the presidency to create arrangements that would place additional burdens on the country through his family.

“I’m not bringing family liabilities back to Nigeria,” he stated.
The presidential hopeful linked his position to his broader argument that Nigeria’s political leadership should prioritise strengthening institutions and public services rather than relying on foreign alternatives.
His comments came a day after he also spoke about the structure of the presidency, saying he would not establish an official Office of the First Lady if elected.
Sowore argued that the position was not expressly provided for in the Nigerian Constitution, while maintaining that women would still have a role in his administration.
He also said his proposed government would seek to reduce public expenditure and reform aspects of the country’s governance system.
