Elevation based on, dedication, professionalism

The newly promoted Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Ibrahim Gotan, has described his elevation as a call for greater responsibility, pledging to redouble his efforts towards contributing to the safety and security of Nigerians.
Gotan, who was the immediate past Commissioner of Police in Osun State, spoke with our correspondent shortly after his promotion to the new rank.
He expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission (PSC) for the confidence reposed in him through the elevation.
According to him, the promotion comes with increased responsibilities and should be viewed as a challenge to do more in the service of the country.
He said the new rank would require greater commitment, dedication and professionalism in the discharge of his duties, adding that he would continue to contribute his quota to the protection of lives and property.
Gotan pledged to double his efforts towards ensuring the safety of Nigerians, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility that requires commitment from security personnel and cooperation from members of the public.
He said his elevation would not make him complacent but would rather strengthen his determination to continue serving the nation diligently.
The former Osun police commissioner also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to rise to the rank of AIG, describing the development as a further responsibility to justify the confidence placed in him by the leadership of the police and the Police Service Commission.
He said he would continue to uphold the principles of professionalism, discipline and dedication in the discharge of his responsibilities.
Gotan’s promotion comes after his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Osun State, where he was responsible for coordinating the activities of the command and overseeing security operations across the state.
As commissioner, he worked with officers and men of the command in carrying out policing responsibilities, including maintaining law and order and responding to security concerns within the state.
His elevation to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police now places him in the senior leadership cadre of the Nigeria Police Force, where he is expected to assume broader responsibilities.
The new rank also represents a progression in his policing career and provides him with an opportunity to bring his experience to bear on the wider security responsibilities of the force.
Reacting to the elevation, Gotan maintained that the promotion should be accompanied by increased dedication to duty rather than viewed merely as a career achievement.
He reiterated his commitment to supporting efforts aimed at creating a secure environment for Nigerians and ensuring that the police continue to discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
He also called for continued cooperation between security agencies and members of the public, noting that effective policing requires the support and partnership of the communities being served.
Gotan said he remained committed to giving his best in his new capacity and promised to approach the responsibilities ahead with renewed determination.
His elevation therefore marks a new phase in his career within the Nigeria Police Force, with the former Osun commissioner set to take on responsibilities associated with the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
