A fire outbreak has destroyed property estimated at about ₦50 million at a five-bedroom duplex in Spring Valley Estate, Oranmiyan, beside the Art and Culture Centre, Osogbo, Osun State.
The state command of the Federal Fire Service (FFS) said no casualty was recorded in the incident, while property worth an estimated ₦200 million was successfully salvaged.
According to the Fire Service, the incident occurred at about 5:38 p.m. On Sunday when it received an emergency distress call from one Mr Tunde Balogun, who reported the outbreak at the residential building.
Following the alert, Fire Service appliance FFS 142, driven by SFA Olutoye, with DSF Ogunremi in charge of the crew, turned out at about 5:40 p.m. and arrived at the scene at approximately 6:15 p.m.
On arrival, the firefighters discovered that the fire was confined mainly to the kitchen and basement of the five-bedroom duplex, which occupied an area of approximately 50 by 200 feet.
The firefighters immediately commenced operations to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the building and adjoining properties.
The fire was eventually brought under control using two medium jets of water from FFS 142, with additional support from FFS 141 and an appliance of the Osun State Fire Service, registration number OS 653-A01, from Abere Station.
A preliminary investigation conducted by the Fire Service indicated that an electrical surge was suspected to have triggered the fire.
The Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service, Osun State Command, DSF Ojo Omoyemi Olamide, ANIPR, said the situation was completely brought under control, with no further outbreak recorded at the scene.
She said while property estimated at about ₦50 million was destroyed, firefighters succeeded in saving property worth approximately ₦200 million.
The spokesperson added that the firefighters and their appliances returned to the station at about 9:19 p.m. after ensuring that the scene was safe and the fire had been completely extinguished.
