The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the just-concluded Osun State governorship election, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, has called on party members and supporters to remain calm and peaceful following the outcome of the poll.
In a statement, he thanked APC leaders, members, supporters and voters across the state for what he described as their steadfastness, commitment, sacrifice and tireless efforts throughout the electioneering period.
The former Commissioner for Finance said he remained proud of the campaign mounted by the party and appreciated the confidence reposed in him by the people who supported his candidacy.
He acknowledged that he had hoped for a different outcome in the election but said he respected the position announced by the electoral umpire.
According to him, the APC would review the election results and determine the appropriate next line of action.
“The campaign has come to an end and the election is over, but the values and causes we championed are alive. We will continue to work for effective, inclusive and rapid development of our dear Osun,” he said.
Oyebamiji urged APC supporters not to withdraw from public affairs but to remain engaged and committed to the development of the state.
He also appealed to party members to remain vigilant and law-abiding in the aftermath of the election, stressing the need to protect the peace of the state.
However, the APC candidate expressed concern over what he described as an emerging pattern of hostility and violence allegedly targeted at members and supporters of the party.
He said attacks recorded before the governorship election appeared to have taken another dimension within 24 hours after the poll.
Oyebamiji therefore called on the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to urgently intervene and prevent further escalation.
He said the protection of lives and property should remain a priority irrespective of political affiliation, urging security agencies to ensure that all citizens could go about their legitimate activities without fear.
“I thank every voter, supporter, party member and leader for your unwavering commitment, sacrifice, and support. I remain proud of the campaign we ran and grateful for the confidence you reposed in me,” he stated.
The APC candidate’s appeal came as political activities continued to generate reactions across Osun following the August 15 governorship election, which was keenly contested by the major political parties.
While congratulating his supporters for their resilience throughout the campaign and election, Oyebamiji urged them to channel their energy towards constructive engagement and the continued pursuit of a better Osun.
He maintained that the issues and aspirations that formed the basis of his campaign remained relevant beyond the election, insisting that the struggle for effective governance, inclusiveness and rapid development should continue.
Oyebamiji prayed for peace, progress and prosperity in Osun State and Nigeria.
