Osun State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery at the grassroots with the commencement of a one-day orientation workshop for Health Technicians, Health Assistants, Dental Health Technicians and Technologists working in Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state.
The training, organised by the Osun State Primary Healthcare Development Board (OSPHCDB), commenced on Wednesday at Halatria Hotel, Osogbo, and is aimed at equipping frontline health workers with updated knowledge and practical skills to improve the quality of primary healthcare services across the state.
Declaring the workshop open, the State Commissioner for Health, Hon. Jola Akinola, reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration to strengthening the state’s primary healthcare system through continuous training, improved workforce capacity and enhanced service delivery.
He described the participants as critical stakeholders in the state’s healthcare architecture, noting that they serve as the first point of contact for thousands of residents seeking medical attention at the grassroots.
Also, he urged the health workers to take full advantage of the training by embracing modern healthcare practices, adhering to professional ethics and applying the knowledge gained to improve patient care in their various facilities.
According to him, the Adeleke administration remains committed to repositioning the primary healthcare sector through strategic investments in human resources, infrastructure, equipment and continuous professional development.
“The quality of healthcare delivery depends largely on the competence and commitment of frontline health workers. This orientation is designed to strengthen your capacity so that our people can continue to enjoy accessible, affordable and quality healthcare services,” the Commissioner said.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of the Osun State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Dr. Shina Igbalaye, described the workshop as a strategic intervention aimed at enhancing the knowledge, technical competence and efficiency of frontline healthcare personnel across the state’s Primary Healthcare Centres.
He explained that the Board remains focused on building a highly skilled workforce capable of responding effectively to the growing healthcare needs of communities throughout Osun State.
Dr. Igbalaye noted that continuous training has become imperative in view of emerging health challenges and evolving best practices in primary healthcare delivery.
He appreciated Governor Ademola Adeleke for his sustained commitment to the health sector, saying the administration’s investments in primary healthcare have continued to improve service delivery and strengthen the state’s healthcare system.
According to him, the government’s support has enabled the Board to implement programmes that improve both the competence of healthcare workers and the quality of services available to residents at the grassroots.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Osun State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Alhaji Tajudeen Adisa, urged participants to approach the workshop with seriousness, discipline and a commitment to learning.
He charged them to actively participate in all the training sessions and ensure that the knowledge acquired translates into improved healthcare services in their respective Primary Healthcare Centres.
Adisa stressed that the effectiveness of the state’s primary healthcare system depends significantly on the professionalism, ethical conduct and dedication of frontline health workers.
He therefore encouraged participants to remain worthy ambassadors of the Board by demonstrating excellence, compassion and accountability in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The orientation workshop brought together Health Technicians, Health Assistants, Dental Health Technicians and Dental Health Technologists from Primary Healthcare Centres across the state.
The participants are expected to receive updated training on professional standards, service delivery, patient care, teamwork and other critical aspects of primary healthcare aimed at improving healthcare outcomes in communities across Osun State.
The programme forms part of the Osun State Government’s broader efforts to strengthen the primary healthcare system and ensure that residents, particularly those in rural communities, have access to efficient, people-centred and quality healthcare services through a well-trained and motivated workforce.
