Ondo APC Chairman, Hon Kolawole Babatunde
Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has appointed the Chairman of the state’s Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Biyi Poroye, as chairman of its reconciliation committee.
The party set up the committee following the disputes that trailed the substitution of the winners of its National Assembly primaries with names of other aspirants following the review of the exercise by the party”s national body based on the recommendation of an appeal committee.
In a statement on Sunday by its state Director, Media & Publicity, Mr Steve Otaloro, the party described the latest moves as part of the strategic efforts to unite members and strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement said the party’s state chairman, Hon. Kolawole Babatunde, announced Poroye”s appointment during a familiarisation visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, in Akure.
It quoted Babatunde saying that “the committee has been mandated to reconcile all members aftermath of the party primary and consolidate the party’s internal cohesion, describing unity as the foundation for APC’s victory in the forthcoming elections.
“There is no political process without disagreements. Political activities naturally generate differing opinions, but what distinguishes our party is our ability to resolve such issues through established internal mechanisms.”
Babatunde explained that “after extensive consultations with the party leadership, approval was granted for the immediate inauguration of the reconciliation committee, which will be headed by Prince Biyi Poroye alongside respected party leaders and stakeholders with vast political experience at both the state and national levels.”
According to the statement, “The APC chairman expressed confidence that the committee would restore harmony within the party and mobilise members towards a united front for the 2027 elections.
“Babatunde also reaffirmed the determination of the Ondo APC, under the leadership of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to deliver well over one million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
“While expressing confidence in the party’s growing grassroots support, he urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the technical challenges experienced during the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election are not repeated.
“According to him, the malfunctioning of the BVAS machines in several polling units during that election prevented thousands of APC supporters from exercising their constitutional right to vote despite the massive mobilisation undertaken by the party across the state.
“He stressed that such avoidable technical failures must not be allowed to undermine the democratic process in the 2027 general elections, noting that the electoral umpire has sufficient time to test and deploy reliable technology capable of guaranteeing a credible, transparent and hitch-free election.
“On preparations for the campaigns, Babatunde disclosed that no fewer than 84 support groups have already registered with the party in Ondo State. He assured that all the groups would be properly harmonised to work under a unified campaign structure and avoid duplication of efforts.
“He maintained that every support group would campaign collectively for all APC candidates, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the party intensifies mobilisation across the state to record an unprecedented electoral victory in 2027.”
