Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum Backs APC, Calls for Party Discipline Ahead of 2027 Polls

The leadership of the Yoruba Ronu Group across Nigeria’s six South-West states has reaffirmed its support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, while calling on the party to strengthen internal discipline.

The position was contained in a statement issued after a meeting of the Forum under the chairmanship of Prince Diran Iyantan to review recent political developments within the APC.

The Forum expressed concern over recent public comments by an APC chieftain suggesting that the ruling party could lose Ondo State in the 2027 elections, describing the remarks as personal opinions that do not reflect the political reality or the views of the people of the state.

According to the group, such comments were inconsistent with the principles of progressive politics and had the potential to undermine the unity and public image of the APC.

The Forum noted that electoral contests naturally produce winners and losers, urging aggrieved party members to pursue any grievances through the party’s constitutional mechanisms instead of making public statements capable of strengthening opposition parties.

It called on the Ondo State chapter of the APC to enforce party discipline by taking appropriate action against members whose public conduct or utterances violate the party’s rules and collective interests.

The group also appealed to the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to intervene in the matter, noting that comments made by former political appointees could be wrongly interpreted as reflecting the position of the state government.

Tit commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for what it described as his ongoing efforts to reconcile aggrieved party members and consolidate unity within the APC ahead of future elections.

Reaffirming its confidence in the APC, the Forum declared that Ondo State remains a stronghold of the party and expressed optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates would record overwhelming victories in the 2027 general elections.

The group attributed its confidence to what it described as the achievements of the Tinubu administration in economic reforms, infrastructure development, investment promotion, fiscal restructuring and other policies aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s economy.

It also praised President Tinubu’s diplomatic efforts in advocating for Africa’s quest for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, saying Nigeria is well positioned to champion the continent’s aspiration because of its population, economic strength and growing global influence.

The Forum urged APC members across the country to remain united, disciplined and focused as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, stressing that internal disagreements should not distract the party from its electoral objectives.
