2027: ADC confirms Amaechi as Atiku’s running mate

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has confirmed former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as running mate to its presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 election.

It made the announcement on Monday, ending weeks of speculation over the VP slot.

The former Transportation minister and ex- Rivers State governor contested the ADC presidential primary alongside Atiku and former FSB International Bank MD Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

Atiku wom with 1,846,370 votes.while Amaechi polled 504,117 votes, and Hayatu-Deen 177,120 votes, according to the party’selectoral committee

Both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen protested the process before votes were counted. Amaechi had also said in TV interviews he was not in the race to be anyone’s running mate.

Explaining, ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi said the decision followed “extensive consultations” with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women stakeholders, and representatives of all geopolitical zones.

Amaechi now heads Atiku’s campaign organisation as DG, ADC had earlier announced.
