Democracy Day: FEDPOLEL Rector Ebeloku charges Nigerians to shun apathy, corruption, divisive politics

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ile zOluji, Ondo State, FEDPOLEL Dr Ademola Ebeloku has charged. Nigerians to shun apathy, corruption, divisive politics.

In his goodwill message on Democracy Day celebrations, he said, “Today, June 12, we remember a defining moment in our nation’s history.

“June 12 is more than a date on the national calendar; it represents courage, sacrifice, and the unwavering determination of Nigerians to choose their own leaders.

“It reminds us that democracy is not free; it was earned through the resolve of citizens who believed that their votes must count.

“Democracy thrives when citizens are informed, responsible, and actively engaged in the affairs of their communities and nation.

“As a Federal Polytechnic, we have a special duty . We do not only train technicians, technologists, accountants, engineers, and other professionals; we also nurture future leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, and problem-solvers who will sustain and strengthen our democracy.

“To our students: Your power lies not in the ballot you will cast tomorrow, but in the skills you acquire today, the integrity you uphold, and the ideas you contribute to societal development.

“A strong democracy needs young people who are critical thinkers, who reject violence, misinformation, and intolerance, and who are committed to finding solutions to societal challenges.

“To our dedicated staff : I express my profound appreciation for your unwavering commitment to academic excellence and character development. Thank you for your mentorship and for instilling discipline, excellence, and patriotism in our students daily.

“The Management of Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji remains committed to upholding democratic values – respect for rules, due process, transparency, and freedom of expression within the ambit of the law. Our goal is to continue to produce graduates who are not only job-ready, but also nation-builders.

“As an Institution situated in Ondo State, we will continue to collaborate with government agencies, industry partners, and communities to drive sustainable development through research, innovation, and the provision of skilled manpower. This is our contribution to deepening democracy and advancing national progress from the grassroots.

“Fellow Nigerians, democracy is a continuous journey, not a destination. It demands patience, vigilance, participation, and patriotism from every citizen.

“Let us therefore reject apathy, corruption, and divisive politics. Let us embrace dialogue, accountability, unity, and selfless service to our nation.

“To our students, I reiterate my charge: Be the generation that makes democracy work. Be disciplined, innovative, law-abiding, and committed to excellence. The future of Nigeria rests significantly on your shoulders.

“As we mark this year’s Democracy Day, may we all recommit ourselves to the enduring ideals of justice, unity, peace, and progress. May the sacrifices of the past inspire our actions today and strengthen our hope for a brighter tomorrow.”
