Special Adviser to Ondo State Governor on Health Matters, Prof. Michael Simidele Odimayo, has declared that the facilities available at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), justify the Ondo State Government’s decision to upgrade the institution to a university.

The state government recently announced the upgrade of the institution to a university.

A statement by the RUGIPO’s spokesman, Mr Olumide Olugosi, said Prof Odimayo spoke during a courtesy visit to the polytechnic’s Acting Rector, Dr. Olorunwa Sunday Lawson, an engineer, in his office on Friday.

The Health Adviser, who was received by the Acting Rector, the Acting Registrar, Mr. Olugbenga Mike Oloye, and the Coordinator of Library Services, Dr. Samuel Kolawole Ayodele, said he was impressed by the facilities on ground during his tour of the campus.

He noted that the serene and peaceful atmosphere within the institution was a clear indication that the Polytechnic had regained stability following its recent industrial crisis.

According to him, the smooth conduct of both academic and administrative activities further demonstrates that normalcy has returned to the institution.

“I am glad to see that academic and administrative activities are going on smoothly. The peaceful atmosphere on campus clearly shows that the institution is back on its feet,” he said.

Speaking on environmental sanitation, Prof. Odimayo observed that waste disposal remains a challenge in many Nigerian communities and institutions. He, however, expressed his willingness to partner with the Polytechnic in addressing waste management challenges within the campus.

Earlier, the Acting Rector welcomed the Special Adviser and expressed appreciation for the visit. He also commended Prof. Odimayo for the commendable work being carried out by his office in advancing healthcare delivery and promoting public health initiatives in Ondo State.

The Acting Registrar, Mr. Olugbenga Mike Oloye, delivered the vote of thanks and expressed the institution’s appreciation for the visit and the proposed collaboration.
