Don’t live your life trying to prove any point

Reflection for the day

By Olubunmi Adebayo

*As much as it exists within your power, don’t live your life trying to prove anything.*

*As a matter of self genuineness, don’t go about trying to prove to anyone that you are more than what they think.*

*It is in trying to prove points that your actions are subject to all manners of interpretations, and perhaps manipulations.*

*It is in proving point that you are open to needless mistakes and human errors.*

*Have you heard about this name before : _William Henry Harrison_?*

*He was a man trying to prove a needless point.*

*_William Henry Harrison was the 9th President of the United States of America_.*

*He was a general famous for leading U.S. forces against Native American Confederacies at the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811.*

*It was a very tough war, which earned him the nickname “Old Tippecanoe.”*

*He went on to serve as Governor of the Indiana Territory, and later as U.S. Senator and Congressman representing Ohio.*

*He was elected President of the United States of America in 1840.*

*It is great to be elected President of the US, but the antithesis about William Henry Harrison was that his tenure was the shortest presidency in America.*

*He was inaugurated President on March 4, 1841.*

*On the day of his inauguration, there was terrible freezing rainfall. But because he wanted to prove that he was a tough man, a rugged fellow and a former military general, he stood in the freezing rainfall and gave the longest inauguration speech in American history – over 2 hours – in the cold and wet weather without a coat to his body or hat on his head!*

*You may want to say that sounds quite crazy! But that was exactly what he did – trying to prove a needless point which he felt reflected the American mood of the time!*

*But do you know what happened thereafter?*

*He caught acute pneumonia some days later and died on his sick bed being treated for a disease which shouldn’t have needlessly come up. This was on April 4, 1841 – just 31 days into his presidency!*

*Making his the shortest presidency in the U.S. history.*

*Some people embark on doing things to prove points that are meant to boost their personal ego.*

*While some other people live their lives trying to prove that they are the ones in charge. Or that they have this or that capacity or ability.*

*Let me ask you this simple but thoughtful question : Do you know why Peter, the disciple of Jesus, faced the toughest challenge of his life, and failed?*

*To be concluded tomorrow, God willing.*

Top of the day to you 👍
