Accord Party in Osun State has dismissed reports alleging that the party has been deregistered, describing the claim as “fake news” and without basis.

In a statement issued in Osogbo on Thursday, the party said it remains a legally recognised political platform, having fulfilled all constitutional and statutory requirements for its operation.

The statement, signed by the state party chairman, Mr Victor Akande, rejected the reports circulating in some quarters, insisting they were aimed at misleading the public.

According to the party, a suit reportedly filed by the Attorney General of the Federation is part of what it described as a failed attempt to create confusion ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

“The suit will fail as it has no legal basis, particularly as the Accord has participated in and won elections in several states across Nigeria,” the statement said.

The party urged residents of Osun to disregard the reports and remain calm, maintaining that it continues to operate as a duly recognised political party.

It further expressed confidence in its electoral prospects, stating that it remains a viable platform for political participation in the state’s forthcoming governorship poll.
