Build on the rock

Reflection for the day

By Olubunmi Adebayo

*You are either building on the rock or on the sand.*

*The two are the possible places where a man can lay the foundation of whatever he is building in life.*

*The One Who opened our thoughts on this subject on the subject of our discussion is no less a Person but our Lord Jesus Christ.*

*Hear Him please :*
*Luke 6:*
*_46) And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?_*
*47) Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:*
*48) He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it : for it was founded upon a rock.*
*_49) But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great_.*

*In life, the standing strength of each building is determined by which type of foundation is laid for it.*

*No doubt, to build on the rock, you will encounter stiff opposition digging through because of the solidity, hardness and toughness of the rock material.*

*But the moment a man succeeds in getting through the rock to lay a proper foundation for whatever he is building, you can be sure that the foundation will be able to stand the test of time due to its being solid, rugged, reliable and dependable against elements of resistance such as :*
*Storms.*
*Erosion.*
*Rainfall.*
*Earthquake.*
*Flooding, and other environmental hazards.*

*On the contrary, if the foundation of whatever a man is building is laid on the sand, digging into such a soil becomes very easy, very quick and less challenging.*

*But there are implications for each of the two possibilities :*

*The softness of the sandy soil makes it dangerous as it will spell doom for whatever structure is built on it : the foundation will be unreliable, unsustainable, and undependable for anything worthwhile to be built on it.*

*Why then is the foundation built on sandy soil unreliable and undependable?*

*To be concluded tomorrow, God willing.*

Top of the day to you
