The Ondo State House of Assembly on Thursday passed into law a bill for a law to convert Owena Press Limited to the Ondo State Government Printing and Publishing Corporation into law .
It was unanimously passed into law through voice votes by the lawmakers at a plenary session presided over by the Speaker of the House , Rt.Hon. (Chief ) Olamide Oladiji at the House of Assembly Complex in Akure.
The bill’s passage followed the submission of the report by the Chairman , House Committee on Information, Hon Olatunji Ifabiyi.
Ifabiyi saidthe reform is expected to improve staff welfare and professional development by creating a clearer career structure, better working conditions and opportunities for training in modern printing and digital publishing.
leader of the House ,Hon(Chief) Olatunji Oshati had earlier moved the motion for the bill to be passed into law, which was seconded by the lawmaker representing Ondo West 11, Hon. Oladapo Biola .
Oshati said the bill’s passage is long overdue, noting that it is a bold step toward efficiency, sustainability, improved and stronger
communication.
In his remarks,the Speaker of the House, expressed optimism that the conversion of Owena Press Limited to the Ondo State Government Printing and Publishing Corporation would enhance the security of government’s publications and ensure proper archival preservation of records and historical materials.
While appreciating the Committee members for a job well done,the Speaker equally lauded Governor Aiyedatiwa for his interest in the overall development of the State at large.
In another vein,the House also passed into law a bill to amend the Ondo State Electric Power Sector Law 2020.
The leader of the House moved the motion for the bill to be passed into law and seconded by the House Deputy Speaker,Rt.Hon.Gbegudu Ololade.
Presenting the report,the Chairman,Ad-hoc Committee on Transportation and Public Utilities,Hon Chris Ayebusiwa, explained that with the new law,there would be stable, reliable and affordable power supply to all and sundry in Ondo State.
According to him, increased electricity projects would also translate to higher internally generated revenue for the State.
The House later, unanimously moved the motion for the passage of the bill through voice votes.
The report of the Public Accounts Committee on the consideration of the year 2022 report of Auditor_General for Local Governments on the audited accounts of the Eighteen (18)Local Governments in Ondo State was received by the Lawmakers.
The House later, observed a minute’s silence in honour of the late Speaker of Kebbi State, Honourable Muhammed Usman,who passed on a few days ago.
