The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, has promised to boost healthcare manpower as it graduated its first set of 90 students from its Professional Diploma in Health Assistance and Caregiving programme.

Its Vice-Chancellor, Adejuyigbe said the development reinforced its commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery through skilled manpower development.

At the ceremony held at the institution’s main auditorium, Odosida, Ondo Campus, the vice-chancellor emphasised that the milestone will undoubtedly address the growing demands within the healthcare sector.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Patrick Osho, he described the occasion as both a celebration of academic achievement and a testament to the character of the graduates.

He said, “This graduation is not only a recognition of academic success but also a reflection of your compassion, resilience, and commitment to service,” he said.

Adejuyigbe noted that the programme was designed to equip students with the practical skills required to function effectively on the frontline of care, adding that their roles would be instrumental in restoring dignity and providing comfort to patients across diverse healthcare settings.

“The university remains committed to producing professionals who combine technical competence with empathy. You are therefore urged to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and excellence in your careers,” he stated.

On his part, the Director of the Programme, Professor C. J. Olowookere, said, “Caregiving is a calling. Carers serve not only as healthcare providers but also as companions, advocates, and sources of hope to vulnerable individuals.”

He further encouraged the graduates to embrace lifelong learning and prioritise self-care, noting that continuous professional development remains essential in an evolving healthcare landscape.
