President Bola Tinubu has commiserated with the families of the victims of Monday attacks in Maiduguri, describing the development as profoundly upsetting.
He said, in a statement issued on Tuesday, that he sympathised with those injured and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s solidarity with the people of Borno State amid the security challenges.
However, hebdescribed the attacks as “desperate and frantic attempts” by criminal and terrorist elements seeking to instil fear, noting that such groups are under sustained pressure from Nigeria’s armed forces and security agencies across various theatres of operation.
He assured that efforts to combat terrorism would be intensified nationwide, stressing that there would be no safe haven for perpetrators.
The President also commended the bravery and resilience of Nigerian troops who successfully repelled coordinated assaults on military formations in the state.
He praised both military personnel and civilian task forces for their continued commitment to restoring peace.
According to the President, the attacks carried out on Monday were the handiwork of “evil-minded” groups but would ultimately be contained and defeated by security forces.
Tinubu further disclosed that he had recently approved additional equipment and operational support for security agencies following a high-level meeting with intelligence and security chiefs.
He noted that the deployment of these resources is already underway.
As part of immediate response measures, the President directed security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to oversee operations, while also instructing emergency agencies to ensure adequate medical care for the injured.
Reaffirming his administration’s resolve, Tinubu declared that terrorists would be tracked, confronted, and eliminated, adding that Nigeria would not yield to fear.
