The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that political campaigns for the 2026 governorship election in Osun State will officially begin on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Commission’s Public Affairs Officer in the state, Musa Olurode, who explained that the commencement of campaigns follows the timetable and schedule of activities earlier released for the election.

According to INEC, political parties, candidates and their supporters are expected to conduct their campaigns peacefully and in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act as well as the Commission’s regulations guiding political activities.

The electoral body specifically cautioned political actors against the use of hate speech, inflammatory statements, violence or any act capable of threatening public peace during the campaign period.

INEC also urged political parties to focus on issue-based campaigns, noting that such an approach would help voters make informed choices ahead of the governorship poll.

The Commission further called on all stakeholders—including political parties, candidates, supporters, security agencies, civil society organisations, the media and members of the public—to contribute to maintaining a peaceful political atmosphere across the state.

INEC assured that it will continue to work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure a conducive environment for political activities and the conduct of a credible election.

The Commission in the state, under the leadership of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mutiu Agboke, reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a free, fair and peaceful governorship election in Osun State.
