The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has called on voters to reject the re-election bid of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the August 15, 2026 governorship election, citing alleged poor governance, lack of transparency and irregularities in the recent teachers’ recruitment exercise in the state.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, said the opposition party sees no justification for the governor to be returned to office for another term.
The APC alleged that the Adeleke administration has been characterised by financial recklessness and lack of accountability in the management of state resources.
According to the party, Osun State has received an average monthly allocation of about ₦11 billion under the current administration, amounting to over ₦400 billion in the last 39 months. The party, however, claimed that the level of development across the state does not reflect such revenue.
The opposition party also accused the government of running an opaque administration, alleging that several government projects lack clear information regarding their cost and execution.
The APC further criticised the handling of governance issues in the state, including disputes surrounding local government administration and chieftaincy matters, which it claimed had generated tensions in some communities.
The party also referenced the controversy surrounding the attempted removal of the state Chief Judge, Adepele Ojo, describing the development as one of the issues that generated public debate during the current administration.
Beyond governance concerns, the APC expressed dissatisfaction with the condition of the Osun State House of Assembly complex, alleging that the facility has remained incomplete, forcing lawmakers to operate from alternative locations in Osogbo.
The opposition party also accused the Adeleke administration of concentrating development projects in the governor’s hometown of Ede, alleging that several road projects and government appointments have disproportionately favoured the area.
A major part of the APC’s criticism focused on the recent recruitment of teachers into public primary and secondary schools in the state.
According to the party, the recruitment process lacked fairness and transparency, alleging that a significant number of employment slots were allocated to individuals connected to political office holders and party officials.
The APC claimed that out of the 876 teachers recruited, 88 were allocated to Ede, which comprises two local government areas, while the remaining slots were distributed among other councils in the state.
The party further alleged that some political office holders and party leaders were allotted recruitment slots as part of the exercise.
It also claimed that many applicants who purchased recruitment forms and participated in the selection process were not eventually considered for employment.
Describing the recruitment process as unfair, the APC said the exercise denied many qualified applicants the opportunity to secure teaching jobs in the state’s public schools.
The party therefore urged residents of Osun State to carefully evaluate the performance of the current administration and make what it described as an informed decision in the forthcoming governorship election.
According to the APC, the August 15 poll presents an opportunity for the people of the state to determine the future direction of governance and leadership in Osun State.
