Idanre community of Ondo State has petitioned President Bola Tinubu over the bloody violence which claimed at least two of its children during the Congress of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Idanre, headquarters of Idanre local Government was the scene of a bloody violence last Wednesday during the state’s APC ward congresses.

It asked the President to probe the violence during which many other persons were seriously wounded, and property worth several millions of Naira were also destroyed

the violence that occurred in the community during the ward congress of the All Progressives Congress.

At least, three persons who sustained injuries were hospitalized when suspected thugs disrupted the exercise in the community.

Raphael Adetimehin, a brother of the state APC Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, was also attacked during the incident.

In its petition, the community called for a presidential investigation into the violence, to ensure the prosecution of those who carried out the dastardly act.

The petition was made available to reporters on Monday in Akure.

Titled ‘A clarion call to end the senseless killings of Idanre citizens’, it was signed by High Chief Akinloye Akinboni, on behalf of the community.

According to the petition: ”As the third-ranking traditional chief of Idanre Kingdom, I hereby formally place the relevant authorities on notice regarding the alarming spate of violence that has characterised political rallies and electoral activities within our community.

“Most disturbing and heartbreaking was the recent APC Delegate Exercise held on Wednesday, 18th February 2026, during which two innocent Idanre citizens were brutally murdered, and dozens sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

“This tragic incident is not only unacceptable but an affront to the peace, dignity, and unity of Idanre Kingdom.”

The community urged the Federal Government, Ondo State Government, the leadership of the APC and the police to set up an independent panel to investigate the attack and ensure that the perpetrators were brought to justice.

“The people of Idanre are aware that criminal elements are behind these atrocities. While we remain law-abiding and peace-loving citizens, we will not fold our arms while our sons and daughters are slaughtered.

“Idanre Kingdom reserves the right to engage independent private investigators to ensure that those responsible are identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

“It must also be clearly stated that the two aspiring APC candidates whose activities have allegedly generated tension and instability do not represent the collective will and best interest of the Idanre people,” the letter stated.

The community warned that it might take legal action if the violence persisted.

“Should the APC-led authorities fail to decisively halt the senseless killings and restore peace, Idanre Kingdom will exercise its constitutional right to seek redress through legal means and explore alternative democratic platforms to present a candidate that genuinely represents the aspirations of our people at the National Assembly.

“Let it be clear: this is not a threat against the APC in Idanre. It is a solemn and responsible notice urging the ruling party and all relevant authorities to act swiftly and justly,” the community said.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command said it had arrested 13 suspects in connection with the violence.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal.
