Osun State National Assembly Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked the reported dissolution of the party’s state Executive Committee, describing the claim as illegal, unconstitutional, and of no effect.
In a statement on Friday, the caucus declared that the Osun State PDP Executive Committee remains valid, subsisting, and fully in charge of the party’s affairs, stressing that it was duly elected for a constitutionally guaranteed four-year tenure which cannot be truncated.
The caucus maintained that the alleged dissolution was carried out in clear violation of the PDP constitution and democratic principles, insisting that no individual or group has the authority to arbitrarily dissolve a lawfully elected state executive committee.
According to the lawmakers, a validly elected state executive enjoys secured legal tenure which must not be tampered with, particularly by what they described as an unrecognised and illegitimate national leadership structure.
The caucus further stated that there is presently no recognised national leadership of the PDP, making it illegal and irresponsible for any unrecognised body to arrogate to itself powers not conferred by law or the party constitution.
“An unrecognised and unelected body lacks the legal authority to dissolve a validly elected and tenured state executive council. Such a purported dissolution is null, void, and of no consequence,” the statement read.
“The Osun State PDP Executive Committee remains valid, subsisting, and fully in charge. We urge our teeming members across Osun State to completely disregard this baseless announcement. The executive team has a four-year mandate and is constitutionally empowered to serve out its tenure without interference.”
The Osun PDP National Assembly Caucus reiterated its unflinching support for the existing party structures in the state, warning that continued attempts by desperate actors to destabilise the party would not be tolerated.
The caucus reaffirmed its commitment to party unity, internal democracy, and adherence to constitutional provisions, calling on party members to remain calm, focused, and law-abiding.
The statement was jointly signed by members of the Osun State PDP National Assembly Caucus, including Senator Kamarudeen Olalere Oyewumi, Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, and Representatives Bamidele Salam, Clement Akanni Ademola, Mudashiru Lukman Alani, Olusoji Adetunji, Adewale Maruf Adebayo, and Oladebo Lanre Omoleye.
