The police have arrested three suspects over alleged unlawful possession of human parts following a sting operation in a community near Iwo.
The suspects were arrested on December 3, 2025, by operatives attached to the Iwo Area Command while hiding inside a dilapidated building.
Confirming the arrest in a statement issued on Monday, the state police spokespmanr, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed that the suspects were found with two plastic bags containing human skin, a white burial gown, two dried bones suspected to be human, and 21 pieces of human teeth.
Items recovered from the suspects also included four horns wrapped in red cloth, three nylon bags containing suspected human hair, a small knife, a substance suspected to be Indian hemp, and ₦127,000 cash.
Ojelabi said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects exhumed the remains from a Muslim cemetery located at the Gaa-Fulani area of the community allegedly for money-making rituals.
“The suspects confessed to the crime and admitted that they specialize in exhuming corpses from cemeteries for criminal purposes,” the police spokesperson stated.
He added that investigations were ongoing, assuring that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The State Police Command reiterated its commitment to tackling ritual-related crimes and urged members of the public to report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies.
