Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday joined the nationwide protests, urging the government to take decisive action against rising insecurity, including kidnappings and banditry.

The state chairman of NLC, Mr. Christopher Arapasopo, described the protest as “a form of awareness and a call to government at all levels to wake up and protect the lives and properties of all Nigerians. Insecurity in Nigeria is increasing daily, and we cannot continue to watch this happen.”

Comrade Dr. Waheed Lawal, Chairman of the Osun State Coalition of Civil Society, emphasized that the demonstrations are not about negotiating with the President but about demanding that the government fulfill its constitutional duty to safeguard lives and property.

“The President may have called the NLC leadership in an attempt to avert the protests, but insecurity cannot be solved overnight. Nigerians deserve safety and prosperity, and we must tell the government that enough is enough,” Dr. Lawal said.

Dr. Lawal also criticized the closure of the regional office of the Amotekun Corps in Osun State, noting, “If there is wrongdoing within Amotekun, prosecute the individuals involved. Shutting down the office entirely is not the solution.

The Governor should strengthen local security networks, empower Amotekun and other community security outfits, and ensure the safety of all residents.”

He further warned, “Osun State has traditionally been one of the most secure states in Nigeria, and we cannot sleep with our eyes closed anymore.

The Governor, as the Chief Security Officer, must ensure the safety of the people. The people of Osun do not want banditry, kidnappings, or criminality in their state.”

The Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu, also weighed in, stating, “The government must prioritize security to safeguard lives and property and promote the welfare of citizens, making life bearable for all Nigerians.”

The nationwide NLC protest serves as a wake-up call to all levels of government to urgently address Nigeria’s worsening security situation.
