The family of Omitunsin Abiola Isaac, a slain operative of the Amotekun Corps in Osun State, has petitioned the police to reopen and intensify investigations into his killing on July 26, 2025, at Ijeda-Ijesa, Oriade Local Government Area of the state.
In a petition filed by G. Olabode & Associates and made available to journalists on Wednesday , the family alleged that the deceased was murdered while on official duty by a serving soldier, who is currently at large.
According to the petition, Isaac and his team from the Amotekun Second Division, Ijebu-Jesa, had been deployed to Ijeda-Ijesa to quell rising tension in the community when they were confronted by the soldier, who allegedly “claimed military superiority over the Amotekun Corps.”
Efforts by the operatives to calm the situation were said to have been met with “strong violent resistance,” during which the soldier reportedly stabbed Isaac multiple times. Attempts to save his life were unsuccessful, and he died from the injuries sustained.
The law firm stated that the suspect, an indigene of Ijeda-Ijesa, immediately fled the scene after the attack, and “all trails on him have since gone cold.”
The family expressed frustration that despite submitting an earlier petition to the Chief of Army Staff, “no action or official response has been received till date.”
The petition said, “All evidence supporting our claims is available, and the incident is already on social media.”
It urged the Osun State Police Command to track down the suspect, arrest him, and ensure prosecution.
“The only thing that can give the family a bit of comfort is to see justice done,” they said.
Copies of the petition were also forwarded to the Inspector General of Police, the Chief of Army Staff, the Osun State Department of State Services, the Nigerian Union of Journalists (Correspondents Chapel), and the Amotekun Corps in Ijebu-Jesa.
Efforts to obtain a reaction from the Nigerian Army were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
