The Police have arrested a popular middle-aged herbalist for his alleged role in the gruesome killing of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer and her daughter.
Osun State Police Command said the herbalist, described as a traditional medicine practitioner made disturbing confessions during interrogation.
He alleged that a man brought the woman and her daughter to him on November 2 for what he called “money ritual.”
He further claimed that the victims had already been killed before their bodies were disposed of.
On November 17, the herbalist reportedly led detectives to the Esa-Odo Dam in Osun State, where the body of Lasisi Funmilayo Oluwamayokun, a 38-year-old FRSC officer serving in Ogun State, was recovered.
His remains were deposited at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Several vital body parts, including the head, breasts, hands, and private parts were missing, fueling suspicion of a ritual-related killing.
Acting on intelligence, detectives from the state police command arrested the man who brought the deceased on November 20 in Ekiti State. The herbalist had earlier named him as one of his accomplices.
During interrogation, the former allegedly confessed to participating in the killing, claiming he slaughtered both victims on the herbalist’s instruction.
Two other suspects were said to have assisted in dismembering the bodies.
He later led investigators into a bush where the remains of the younger victim, Sewa Lasisi, were found.
Her head, hands, and feet were also missing. Her remains were taken to the UNIOSUN morgue.
Meanwhile, another key suspect allegedly fled Nigeria shortly after the crime.
A joint operation with INTERPOL led to his arrest in Ghana and subsequent repatriation to Nigeria for further questioning.
Parading the suspects at the command headquarters, Osun State Police boss, CP Mohammed Gotan, assured the public that detectives were committed to uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the killings.
He added that all suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations, and efforts were underway to arrest remaining accomplices.
It will be recalled that the FRSC officer and her daughter were declared missing earlier this month after leaving their residence at Obasanjo Hilltop Estate, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on the morning of November 2.
Their disappearance triggered widespread concern and online appeals for information.
The tragic discovery of their death was first shared on Facebook by Ayomideji Solanke, who cited a family source.
He claimed the mother and daughter were found dead in the home of a suspected herbalist in an undisclosed community in Osun State.
He also noted that the herbalist’s wife had been arrested, while the suspect himself was initially on the run.
