The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has charged its officers and men to rededicate themselves to saving the lives of Nigerians.
Declaring open a retreat at the Sector Command Headquarters in Osogbo, the Zonal Commanding Officer in charge of Zone 11 (Osun, Ondo, and Oyo States), Assistant Corps Marshal Joseph W. Toby, urged participants to take their duty seriously.
He said, “You are all challenged to build stronger media engagement, improve operational efficiency, and re-dedicate yourselves to the sacred mission of saving lives on Nigerian roads.”
Also, he charged participants to embrace innovation and translate knowledge gained into actionable strategies.
Organized by the Corps’ Osun State Sector Command as its 3rd Quarter 2025 Retreat, the event focused on improving operational effectiveness and tackling negative media perception.
It had as its theme: “Contemporary Challenges of FRSC Operational Activities in the Face of Negative Media Publicity: The Way Forward.”
It was organised in collaboration with DDI Consult, featuring the induction workshop for newly elected State Executives and Unit Coordinators of the Special Marshals — the volunteer arm of the Corps.
In his Welcome Address, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Leye Adegboyega, fsi, described the retreat’s theme as both timely and strategic, particularly in an era where public perception can overshadow factual performance.
“In today’s world, perception is as powerful as reality. Public trust is our greatest asset, while negative publicity remains our greatest threat,” Adegboyega noted.
He urged officers and marshals to uphold professionalism, communicate transparently, and respond to public concerns with honesty and integrity.
Delivering the lead presentation, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Spokesperson and Special Adviser on Media to the Osun State Governor, emphasised that the FRSC plays a central role in Nigeria’s fight against road crashes and must not allow its image to be tainted.
“The mandate of the FRSC is too important to be drowned by negative narratives. The Corps must build public trust through accountability, openness, and constructive media engagement,” Rasheed advised.
In attendance were Heads of Departments, Principal Officers of the Sector Command, Component Commanding Officers, Operations Heads from across Osun State and Heads of Driver’s Licence Centres
Others were FRSC Local Government Station Officers, Intelligence Operatives and
Special Marshal State Executives and Unit Coordinators
It is expected that the insights shared during the retreat will strengthen the capacity of the Command to navigate media challenges, enhance public confidence, and improve overall service delivery across Osun State.
