Marine and Blue Economy minister, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, has urged Nigerian youths to stay away from drug abuse, warning that it leads to mental health issues and a life of destruction.

He said, “Please, I plead with you avoid drug abuse. It only leads to mental health issues and a path of destruction. Your future is bright; protect it.”

The minister gave this advice in Iragbiji, his hometown, while addressing supporters and well-wishers during his 71st birthday celebration.

Also, he expressed optimism about the future of his political party, declaring that it would emerge victorious in the forthcoming 2026 gubernatorial election.

“I give thanks to Almighty God for how far we have come. It is truly heartwarming to see the unity and strength we continue to uphold within our party. This unity is our greatest asset, and I want to encourage each and every one of us to continue in that spirit. Let peace and unity reign among us—because that is the surest path to victory in 2026,” he stated.

Reflecting on the spiritual dimension of the event, he highlighted the significance of the sermon delivered by the Chief Imam of Offa, encouraging others to draw inspiration from it.

“I have personally taken my own lessons from it, and I urge you all to do the same. Ensure that everything meant to reach the grassroots does so, without any form of sabotage. Transparency and sincerity must guide our actions at every level,” he advised.

Oyetola commended the turnout at the event, despite the absence of formal invitation.

“I deeply appreciate everyone present here today. Your massive support means a lot—especially considering that no formal invitations were sent out. Your presence shows true commitment, and I do not take it for granted,” he noted.

Addressing the people most of whom were youths, he encouraged them to remain focused, be dedicated to their work, and remain God-fearing.

“Fear God, because it is by His grace that I am where I am today. I have never strayed from worshiping Him, and I encourage you to do the same. Stay away from thuggery. Do not allow yourselves to be used for violence,” he cautioned.

He reaffirmed his commitment to peace, unity, and development, urging all stakeholders to play their part in building a better future.
