The All Progressive Congress, APC, in Ondo State said that it has mobilises its members in the state’s 203;wards and that it has received encouraging reports.
In a statement by Mr. Steve Otaloro, its
Director, Media & Publicity, the party said:
“In response to the recent press release from the South West Progressive Vanguard (SWPV), we would like to clarify the efforts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State regarding the ongoing nationwide continuous voter registration exercise.
The APC has proactively mobilized its members across all 203 wards in Ondo State, and the feedback we have received has been encouraging. From the onset of the voter registration exercise, our party acted swiftly by instructing our members to engage with eligible citizens and encourage them to participate in this vital democratic process.
It is important to note that the perceived low turnout in urban areas may be attributed to our grassroots mobilization strategy, which has been focused on reaching out to communities at the local level. Additionally, the limited number of eligible first-time voters- those who have turned eighteen since the last registration exercise during the governorship election has also impacted the numbers.
We believe that placing any blame on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is unnecessary, as this is fundamentally a party affair. The governor has consistently directed the party to fulfill its responsibilities in this regard. While the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) holds the primary role of educating the public about voter registration, the APC, under Governor Aiyedatiwa’s guidance, has taken the initiative to enhance awareness and mobilization efforts through our extensive network of party members.
We encourage Elder Adewale Jackson and the South West Progressive Vanguard to redirect their efforts towards supporting this important initiative, rather than casting unwarranted aspersions on the governor. It is crucial that all stakeholders work collaboratively to inform and engage the citizens of Ondo State about their right and responsibility to register and vote in the upcoming elections.
Together, we can strengthen our party and ensure that every eligible citizen is empowered to participate in the democratic process.”
