Yilwatda becomes new APC chairman

New APC Chairman’s, Nentawe Yilwatda

Prof Nentawe Yilwatda was on Thursday sworn in as the new national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

He succeeds Dr Abdullahi Dangoje who resigned on June 27, purportedly on health grounds,

Yilwadta, who is the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, was inaugurated as chairman at about 2.50 p.m.

This was after he was unanimously adopted by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) at is ongoing meeting at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The motion for his adoption as the new chairman was moved by the chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) and governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, moved the motion for his adoption.

It was seconded by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen.

He was born on August 8, 1968,to the family of the departed Rev. and Mrs. Toma Yilwatdta at Dungung, Kanke LGA, Plateau State.

He attended the prestigious Boys’ Secondary School, Gindiri, after which he obtained his first degree from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.

Also, he had a Master’s degree at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, and a doctorate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, specializing in Digital Systems Engineering.

He was a teacher and community development expert at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi.

Also, he spent over 29 years as a consultant for international development partners, the public, and the private sectors.

Yilwatda was also an ICT Director at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (12 years).

A one time Resident Electoral Commissioner, Benue State (July 2017–December 2021), he contested for the 2023 governorship election as the APC Governorship Candidate in Plateau State.

He was appointed Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction (October 23, 2024).
