- Olakulehin’s mourning begins
Members of the Olubadan-In-Council are expected to commence the process of installing the 44th Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja,
The 21 day mourning of the departed Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, began on Tuesday.
This signals off the performance of the traditional ceremonies by the Olubadan in Council to usher in his successor, a businessmen who was a former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan.
The Ibadan traditional institution declared the mourning period in line with an age-long tradition of the mega city.
The departed Oba Olakulehin joinwd his ancestors early on Monday after a brief illness at an undisclosed private hospital at Jericho in Ibadan, the state capital.
Expectedly, the Balogun Olubadan, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, who is the most senior on the Balogun line, will nominate the new Olubadan while his nomination will be seconded by Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole, at a yet-to-be-convened meeting.
The meeting will be held at the new Olubadan palace, Oke-Aremo, in the Ibadan North Local Government Area of the state.
Presently, Senator Ladoja is on trip overseas.
According to a source:, “You know Oba Ladoja was not in town when the news of the departed Olubadan was announced.
“However, Baba (Ladoja) is coming back to Ibadan next week.
Meanwhile, eminent personalities within and outside Ibadan have been calling to commiserate with the incoming Olubadan, even in his absence, on the passage of his predecessors.
“He will be back in the town next week to facilitate the traditional process.”.
