The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has warned suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara against seeing it as a dumping ground for alleged political sinners.
It told him it is not a refuge camp for politicians with unresolved controversies.
The state APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Sir Tony Okocha, who spoke in Abuja on Tuesday, dismissed any notion that Fubara’s rumoured planned defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC would absolve him of past misdeeds.
He said, “If Fubara decides to join the APC, it has nothing to do with the state of emergency in Rivers State.
“His sins cannot be forgiven simply because he joined our party. APC is not a dumping ground for political misdemeanors,” .
On Fubara’s recent Sallah homage to President Bola Tinubu, Okocha stressed that the meeting holds no political significance and does not indicate any form of reconciliation or realignment.
“How can I be worried that someone visited my President? It was Sallah season. Former Governor Osoba and even Chief Nyesom Wike also paid homage. We cannot control who the President sees,” he noted.
On the possibility of Fubara joining the APC, Okocha emphasized that due process must be followed. “He would have to defect properly through his ward. I’ve asked around and no ward chairman has brought any information suggesting that he’s joined us. He hasn’t spoken to me either.”
He further dismissed speculations about reconciliation efforts by Fubara, asserting that he is unaware of any such move.
“The President advised him to make peace, but I’ve seen no effort in that direction,” Okocha said.
