The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has extended the service of 119 corps members serving in Osun State, for various offenses.
This was in a statement made available to reporters after the low-key passing out ceremony of the 2024 Batch B Stream 1.
It was gathered that 2,057 corps members were successfully disengaged, while 86 received extensions and 33 were declared as absconders.
The state coordinator, Mr. Agbor disclosed that a total of 2,057 corps members were successfully disengaged, while 86 received extensions and 33 were declared as absconders due to misconducts that contravenes the NYSC bye-laws.
Speaking at the Olorunda LGA distribution centre, Agbor warned the corps members to avoid night journeys, urging them to travel only from approved motor parks, and refrain from wearing the NYSC uniform while traveling, to ensure personal safety.
He emphasised the NYSC’s pivotal role in fostering national unity across regional and cultural divides.
Agbor expressed gratitude to the Almighty for protecting the corps members through their service year, and commended them for their resilience in the face of numerous challenges.
Also, at the Osogbo LGA distribution centre, Mr. Oyebade Babatunde, the Deputy Director for Mobilisation and Certification, South West Area Office 1, commended the corps members for their meaningful contributions to national development.
He reminded them to build upon the knowledge acquired during their Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training.
While interacting with the corps members, Oyebade encouraged them to embrace the next chapter with confidence, reminding them that the service year had equipped them with valuable lessons.
He urged them to be disciplined, honest, respectful, and hardworking, noting that these qualities are essential for fulfilling their visions.
Besides he advised those with the opportunity to pursue further education or acquire practical skills to do so as a means of securing a sustainable future, while strongly warning against involvement in illegal activities in the pursuit of quick wealth.
