Hon. Princess Gloria Akobundu has called on Nigerian women to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office, declaring that the country is on the path to renewed greatness.
Akobundu, a member of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council Women Mobilisation Wing, spoke on Monday at the APC Women Stakeholders’ Mobilisation and Empowerment Pre-Inaugural Summit in Abuja.
The summit, convened by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, brought together APC women leaders, grassroots organisers, faith-based mobilisers and other stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The organisers also announced the integration of more than 500 women support groups from across the six geopolitical zones into the APC Presidential Campaign Council Women Wing.
The groups, according to the organisers, represent millions of women voters and have endorsed Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking with journalists after the event, Akobundu, who also serves as Secretary of the APC PCC Faith-Based Mobilisation (Christians), expressed support for the First Lady’s message to women at the gathering.
Earlier, Senator Tinubu told the women that the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda 2.0, themed “From Reforms to Prosperity,” was yielding results.
She cited developments in the economy, agriculture and education, including the student loan scheme administered through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
“Our economy is stabilising. Inflation is coming down. Our foreign reserves are growing. Investors are returning to Nigeria. Our farmers are getting more support. Our children in the universities are now able to access student loans through the NELFUND scheme, just to mention a few,” the First Lady said.
She urged the women to return to their respective states and communities and communicate the administration’s message to voters.
The First Lady also announced plans to consolidate the various women support groups under the APC structure, stressing that the party would mobilise for candidates contesting at the presidential, governorship and legislative levels.
“What you will see on the ballot box is APC. We’re here to promote APC, nothing less. From Presidency, governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly, that is what we are here for,” she said.
She disclosed that the mobilisation programme would include six zonal mega rallies, with a final rally scheduled to take place in Abuja.
The summit also featured the distribution of empowerment items to women, including tricycles, sewing machines, refrigerators and agricultural equipment intended to support beneficiaries’ livelihoods.
Akobundu urged the beneficiaries to use the items productively and turn the opportunities into sustainable sources of income.
“These items are not mere gifts; they are instruments of economic liberation,” she said.
“I congratulate every woman who has received these tools today. Use them diligently, productively and purposefully so that your families, communities and the nation at large will feel the positive impact.”
Akobundu also appealed to women across the country, particularly in the South-East, to support the APC and Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“I urge women voters everywhere to ensure the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the consolidation of the good works already set in motion,” she said.
“Nigeria is on the path of renewed greatness. Continuity is essential if we are to complete the transformation that has begun.”
