Yuletide: NSCDC beefs up security, deploys 2500 in Lagos

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has deployed 2500 personnel in Lagos State, to ensure maximum security during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Mr Seun Abolurin, spokesperson of the NSCDC, said this in a statement on Friday, in Lagos.

The personnel are drawn from Operations, Intelligence and Investigation Departments, as well as Anti–Vandal, Armed Squad and Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear and Explosives Units.

He said that operational vehicles, ambulances and other machinery were already stationed at strategic areas to support the mission.

Abolurin said that the officers and men were mandated to monitor all strategic and tactical locations, flash points and black spots.

He said that they were also to monitor beats, relaxation spots, recreational parks, markets, worship centres and religious gatherings, among others.

The spokesman quoted the Lagos -State NSCDC boss, Mr Ishaq Alfadarai, as saying that the safety of lives, critical national assets, and infrastructure must not be compromised.

“The approach engaged will not neglect the remote rural, coastal regions and all areas where security is required within the state due to their vulnerabilities,” he is quoted as saying.

The spokesman urged the people to comply with security and safety protocols during the celebrations.

While wishing indigenes Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, NSCDC urged people not to indulge in any bad behaviour but rather to toe the path of peace.
