World leaders, monarchs, scholars to converge at Ile-Ife as Ooni marks 10th coronation anniversary

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, is set to celebrate his 10th coronation anniversary with a week-long international cultural festival.

Themed “Ten Years of Aṣé: A Reign of Peace, Culture and Unity,” the celebration will take place from November 30 to December 7, 2025, transforming the ancient city into the epicentre of African heritage, unity, and socio-economic progress.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Ile-Oodua Palace on Wednesday, the Ooni—represented by his Queen, Olori Aderonke Ademiluyi Ogunwusi, his spokesperson Otunba Moses Olafare, and members of the 10th Anniversary Planning Committee—described the event as more than a coronation anniversary, but a global cultural homecoming.

“This is a festival that honours the enduring legacy of the Yoruba people, while positioning Ile-Ife as a beacon of African unity, history, and future aspirations,” said Otunba Olafare.

Dignitaries expected at the event include African Heads of State, leading traditional rulers, global scholars, diaspora leaders, and tourists from around the world.

The festival seeks to promote deeper Pan-African ties, cultural preservation, and youth economic empowerment.

Some of the line of activities include :Premiere of “The Journey to Ife: A Renewal of Culture” – a cultural film chronicling Yoruba history.

Also featuring are Yoruba Drama, Arts & Film Festival – featuring stage plays, movies, and cultural storytelling., Lineage Exhibition & Guided Shrine Tours – offering insight into the Yoruba pantheon and royal history., Yoruba Food & Fashion Festival – blending tradition with modern flair in cuisine and attire., Traditional Games & Sports Competitions – showcasing indigenous athleticism. Royal Gala Night & Fireworks Display – with drone storytelling of the Yoruba nation’s evolution., and Procession of 401 Ifa Deities – the spiritual highpoint of the celebration.

The programme will also include royal homage from kings across Yorubaland and Africa, further strengthening cultural ties and communal pride.

Since ascending the throne in 2015, Oba Ogunwusi has led a reign marked by cultural diplomacy, peace-building, and youth-focused economic initiatives. Projects such as the Inagbe Cocowood Factory, OjajaMore Shopping Malls, and job creation programs have solidified his reputation as a monarch deeply committed to development.

“This is not just a celebration of ten years on the throne, but of ten years of service, innovation, and global cultural leadership,” said Mrs. Bonike Thomas-Ojo, a committee member.

The Ooni has also been lauded for championing the reconnection of Africa with its diaspora, strengthening spiritual and cultural links across continents.

The 10th coronation anniversary is expected to serve as a rallying point for Pan-African unity, bringing together voices and visions for the future of the continent—rooted in its traditions and cultural identity.

The event, according to organizers, will be live-streamed globally and open to all those passionate about African culture, history, and progress.
