Woman arraigned for assaulting policeman

A 20-year-old woman, Obanla Sade, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

Sade, whose address was not given is facing a charge of assault.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 11 about 7:00 a.m at Odo Aremu in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital.

He alleged that the defendant assaulted one Sgt. Ilesanmi Lawrence attached to Ado Central Division Okesa, Ado-Ekiti, when she held him and tore his cloth, while executing his lawful duty.

Apata said the offence contravened Section 356(1) (2) (3) and (5) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Adebowale Adelusi, urged the court to grant his client bail promising that she would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Ajibade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case until September 1 for hearing.
