Akeredolu, 2ndR, being conducted round
The Ondo State Government has established twelve Digitised Motor Inspection Centres to ensure that vehicles plying roads across the state are in good working conditions.
Conducting Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, round the construction site of one of the projects in Akure, the state capital, within the premises of the VIO Office, opposite Omolere Nursery and Primary School, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transport, Mr Tobi Ogunleye said the centres would help motorists put their vehicles in proper working conditions in accordance with global environmental safety standards.
According to a statement by Bode Akinwumi, Press Officer to the Governor, Ogunleye added that integrity test would be carried out on vehicles after which Certificate of Road Worthiness would be issued to qualified ones.
Computers that would be at the centre according to the Special Adviser, would be meant to analyse and diagnose the state of vehicles, while owners of vehicles which do not pass the integrity test would be given one month to fix them.
“If such vehicle returns and we discover that the condition is poor and is not fit to ply our roads, such vehicle would be impounded and would not be allowed to leave our compound,” he added.
The Special Adviser said the operational capacities of the Ore and Owo Centres would be large enough to accommodate all vehicles including articulated trucks.
The Site Engineer, Mr Felix Funso said the entire processes would be computerised for immediate result after critical diagnosis of every vehicle brought for examination.
He hinted that as soon as vehicles are brought into the Centre, an integrity test would be carried out on them and the detector would send an instant signal to the computer, indicating where the faults are for easy tracing.
Funso further added that the gadgets would also be capable to carry out tests to ascertain if the tyres are in good shape to ply the roads at night.
He assured that the project would be delivered to the State Government for use in few months.
Responding, Akeredolu expressed optimism that the centres would help keep motorists in constant notice of the conditions of their vehicles thereby averting highway crashes which could have been prevented, had proper checks been carried out.
Governor Akeredolu said the unserviceable vehicles oozing out hazardous gases while plying roads across the state would be properly managed to promote quality living for residents of the state.
While calling for speedy completion of the projects, Arakunrin Akeredolu promised that the State Government would not for any reason, compromise better life for citizens of the Sunshine State.
Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale accompanied the governor on the facility tour of the project.
