Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has debunked reports of a protest by its personnel over alleged non-payment of allowances for duties performed during the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.
It said that contrary to reports, its personnel did not embark on any protest, explaining that the payment of election duty allowances was only slightly delayed because of a mandatory verification exercise designed to ensure that all eligible officers received their entitlements.
The command made the clarification in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesmam, ASC Kehinde Adeleke.
According to the statement, the clarification followed a post-election assessment meeting held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the Command headquarters in Osogbo.
The meeting, presided over by the Osun State Commandant, CC Igbalawole Sotiyo, was attended by Area Commanders, Divisional Officers and Tactical Commanders.
The Command said the meeting reviewed the operational activities of its personnel before, during and after the governorship election, while commending officers and men for their professionalism and commitment to duty.
It said the efforts of the personnel contributed to the peaceful conduct of the election across the state.
Sotiyo explained that the election duty allowances had been paid, noting that the slight delay in disbursement was caused by the need to verify nominal rolls of personnel deployed to Osun from different parts of the country.
He said personnel were deployed from the six South-West states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, Kano, Nasarawa, Kogi and Kaduna states.
“It was after the verification that the disbursement commenced,” Sotiyo said.
The Commandant explained that the verification was necessary to prevent fraudulent claims and ensure that no ineligible or “ghost” names were included in the payment process.
“The verification process, which delayed the payment a bit, was to ensure that there were no ghost names and that every eligible officer was paid. That has been done and payment made,” the statement quoted him as saying.
Sotiyo also expressed appreciation to the NSCDC Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, for his commitment to the welfare of personnel.
He urged media organisations to always verify reports concerning the Corps with the appropriate Public Relations Officers before publication.
According to him, accurate verification would help prevent the circulation of misleading information capable of creating unnecessary tension or demoralising personnel ahead of future national assignments.
The NSCDC Command therefore urged members of the public to disregard reports suggesting that its personnel embarked on a protest over unpaid election allowances, stressing that the issue had been resolved and payments completed.
