- says there is ability in disability
Physically challenged persons in Osun State and Nigeria have been told to see themselves as promising people with limitless abilities and capabilities.
Speaking with our correspondent in an interview, a visually impaired representative of the Adire section of one of the rehabilitation centres in the state, Mr.Adebayo Muritala, appreciated the State Government and the Management of the Osun Community Social Development Agency, CSDA, for their support.
He said that Adire local fabrics can compete with any foreign fabrics in the world adding that they could compete with their fellow able men and women.
Muritala, a beneficiary of the CSDA charged with the responsibility of caring for the poor including the physically challenged in Osun State, disclosed that he is into Adire production in one of the rehabilitation centres of Osun CSDA
Osogbo, the state capital, is known for Tie and Dye Making.
Muritala solicited more assistance from the State Government to help them produce more Adire fabrics to enable them to pay the salaries of workers in the Disability Village.
He said, “If the government can assist us with the grant, we will be able to produce Adire in larger quantities. This will help us pay the salaries of workers in the Disability Village.”
Muritala said his Adire production can match any fabrics in Nigeria and across the world, hinting that his expertise has endeared people to him.
He commended the people who think that the physically challenged should not be chastised in society, but rather need encouragement from both the government and the people.

“Please you media men help me to tell big men, government officials, politicians, and philanthropists to patronise my Adire. I also recommend Adire to be worn by everybody, including the civil servants to their offices every Wednesday as earlier directed by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“I must commend the Governor, the general manager of CSDA, Mrs. Agboke, and her team whose efforts had helped in taking care of the project centre where Adire is produced and other rehabilitation centres taking care of the aged men and women including the physically challenged.”
Mrs Agboke who spoke on her agency’s determination to promote the Adire being produced by Muritala and others in the rehabilitation centre, called on the general public to support the Agency in its effort to bring succour to the poor and physically challenged.
She explained that the Adire production being carried by CSDA is of high quality, enjoined the media to promote the handwork of these talented physically challenged persons.
She promised continued support for Adire production just as she encouraged the philanthropists, organisations, and individuals patronizing the Adire production centre.
