Poet and author, Mr Victor Emmanuel Uwah, has been conferred with the honourary chieftaincy title of Akpan Idung by the Atan Offot Community in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
He was decorated with the honour by the Atan Offot Village Head, Etteidung Idongesit Alfred Ekong at the monarch’s grand coronation ceremony on Saturday June 5, 2021 at Bishop Haywoode’s Primary School Grounds, Atan Offot, Uyo.
It was “in recognition and appreciation of his contributions to the growth and development of humanity and Atan Offot Community.”
In a letter conveying his selection for the honourary chieftaincy title award, the Atan Offot Village Council Coronation Planning Committee had said that as part of the presentation by the Council of the Atan Offot Village Head, Etteidung Idongesit Alfred Ekong in a Grand Coronation Ceremony, “the Etteidung intends to honour some Distinguished and Outstanding Individuals within and outside the Village.”
The letter, dated May 14, 2021, and signed by the Chairman Publicity Committee, Rev Monde Uwah, added: “It is therefore with respect that we inform you that you have been nominated to be honoured with a Chieftaincy Title by the Etteidung, to commemorate this event.”
Uwah, whose birthname is Etekamba, a Chief Superintendent of the Nigeria Customs Service, studied Law at the University of Calabar between 1982 and 1985.
