A University don, Dr Samuel  Sedara, has called on Nigerian politicians to be transparent and accountable to the people, emphasizing that the country’s wealth belongs to the citizens, not the rulers.

Sedara, a Physicist, Science and Human rights activist at the Adekunle Ajasin University, made the appeal on an online symposium on good governance and national development.

He said, “Nigeria’s resources are meant to be harnessed for the benefit of all citizens, not just a select few.

“Our leaders must be accountable to the people and ensure that the nation’s wealth is used to improve lives, create jobs, and drive sustainable development.”

He expressed concern about the widespread poverty and inequality in the country, despite its vast natural resources, and urged politicians to prioritize the needs of the people over personal gain.

His words, “The era of looting and mismanagement must give way to transparency, accountability, and good governance.

“The people deserve leaders who serve with integrity, empathy, and a commitment to the nation’s progress.”

Sedara called on Nigerians to demand accountability from their leaders and to hold them responsible for their actions.

“We must put the people first, and the dividends of governance will follow,” he said.

Civil society groups and ordinary Nigerians, who have reacted, aligned with the don’s remarks, calling for greater transparency and accountability in government.
