Truth

The Poet's Corner

By Victor Emmanuel Uwah

Created by Him yet despised by men,

Immutable though Truth stands out still,

That when He’s denied and men complain

They can’t His faithfulness thus repeal.

Truth is the “Which Is”, for He’s the same

From days of yore, today and fore’er:

He changes not His aim nor His name,

And in steadfastness leads not astray.

Truth is Love that rules in every heart.

He doesn’t cheat nor is He unfair,

But discerns right and wrong from the start

And gives every man what is his share.

Truth forever is the Almighty,

For though a man may his might proclaim,

Truth prevails on him with gravity

And brings to nought such loud-mouthed claim.

Truth is the incorruptible Judge

On Whose judgment there is no appeal

Since He favours not nor bears a grudge,

But exposes what men’s hearts conceal.

Truth is the Healer of every wound:

When He’s suppressed some hearts always bleed,

But such hearts cannot fore’er be ruined

For Truth resurrects to heal indeed.

Truth, Comforter of downtrodden souls,

Never disappoints but gives some hope

And in every situation consoles,

That whate’er it is men always cope.

Truth is the Hunter Whose shots are straight:

Who fires at consciences that cheat,

That they may such scornful act regret

And from such degrading path retreat.

Truth is the pure Objectivity

Who never spares falsehood to subdue

When it holds minds in captivity,

And at last such captive minds rescue.

Truth, the absolute Reality,

Who, no matter what men fabricate,

Shows His greatness in simplicity

And such fabrications underrate.

Truth, indeed, is the greatest of all,

Since He gave birth to all things that be,

And on His path one can never fall,

For when possessed makes one to be free.
