Trump taking the Oath of Office on January 20, 2025
At exactly 6.02 pm [Nigerian Time], Donald John Trump took the Oath of Office as the 47th President of the United States.
The solemn ceremony was attended by his immediate predecessor Joe Biden, ex-presidents Barack Obama, George W Bush, Bill Clinton and former Vice President Mike Pence.
Kamala Harris, the immediate past Vice President and Democratic nominee during the last election also attended the event.
The ceremony was held indoors at the Capitol Rotunda due to dangerously cold temperatures, making it the coldest Inauguration Day since 1985.
It was also the 60th presidential inauguration in the 250-year-old US democracy.
Newly sworn in US Vice President JD Vance was ushered into the Rotunda at exactly 5:40pm Nigerian time, while Trump entered at 5:43PM for the one-hour ceremony.
Trump was sworn with two Bibles by Chief Justice Robert. One is a personal Bible given to him by his mother in 1955, and another is the historic Lincoln Bible.
Trump said in his post inauguration speech that the golden age of America had begun “right now.”
“From now on, our country will flourish again,” he said.
He said his administration would simply put America first in all considerations.
“Our sovereignty will be reclaimed,” he added.
He said his survival during the electioneering was made possible by God to enable him get into office to make America great again.
“Fir the avoidance if doubt, January 20, 1025 is América’s Liberation Day.”
