Tinubu to Commission Ondo Deep Seaport Foundation Next Year

President Bola Tinubu will start off the building of the much-awaited Ondo Deep Sea Port next year, according to the state government.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Idowu Ajanaku, announced this in his office in Akure during a courtesy visit by the Executive and members of the Online Media Professionals of Nigeria, Ondo State Chapter.

Besides, he disclosed that a modular refinery capable of producing 500,000 liters of petrol daily will soon commence operations in the State.

Also, he said discussions are ongoing for the establishment of a cement factory in Okeluse, Ose Local Government Area.

According to him, preparations are underway for the President’s visit to the state next year for the official groundbreaking ceremony of the Deep Seaport, which is expected to “transform the state’s economic landscape.”

He affirmed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to a strategic development agenda aimed at industrializing the state, enhancing tourism, and reducing reliance on the civil service economy.

Also, he elaborated that the Governor’s governance approach is well-structured and focused on achieving long-term prosperity, rather than engaging in short-term populist initiatives.

His words, “The administration of Governor Aiyedatiwa is not slow, as some may believe; it is tactical and strategic.

“To transition Ondo State from a civil service-driven economy to an industrialized one, careful and meticulous planning is required.”

He noted that these industrial projects, will provide substantial employment opportunities and boost the state’s internally generated revenue.

Apart from industrialization, Ajanaku stated that the Aiyedatiwa administration is investing in tourism development.

Plans are in motion to transform Araromi-Obu into a world-class resort destination through collaboration with investors behind Lagos’ Eko Atlantic City.

Also, contracts have been awarded for modernizing Idanre Hills, including the installation of elevators to improve tourist accessibility.

Ajanaku said, “In the Southwest, after Lagos, Ondo State possesses the greatest economic potential.

“We are endowed with natural resources, tourism sites, and an oil-producing status as part of the Niger Delta Development Commission.

“The Aiyedatiwa administration is committed to harnessing these opportunities to create a self-sustaining economy.”

He added that ongoing infrastructural projects, such as the Shagari Bridge in Akure, are expected to be completed soon and featured as key projects during the state’s 50th anniversary celebration in February 2026.

Commending the media for its role in nation-building, he assured that the his Ministry would continue to work with online media professionals in promoting government policies and countering misinformation.

He announced that the ministry is developing a mobile app to track fake news and a website to facilitate information sharing and public engagement.

Earlier, Joseph Adesuyan, Chairman of the Online Media Professionals (OMP), congratulated the commissioner on his appointment and expressed the association’s readiness to partner with the state Ministry of Information to combat fake news and showcase the government’s developmental efforts.
