The Guardian hires CEO

Appointment

In line with the ongoing reengineering of its business structure into a multimedia global organisation, after a rigorous process, The Guardian Group has appointed Dr. Habeeb Adekunle Quadri as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO). His appointment was ratified at the Board of Directors’ meeting of July the 3rd, 2019.

The Board also overwhelmingly adopted a resolution that the Guardian Newspaper Limited (GNL) now operates in the media business space as part of The Guardian group of companies. Henceforth, the organisation shall be known as The Guardian Group.

Quadri, a highly spirited entrepreneur is saddled with the integration of all the group’s businesses, implementing the new operating structure as well as overseeing the emergence of an effective corporate governance system to facilitate a new culture of productivity. He would build the capacity of the human capital resource to support and drive the group to higher profitability and global relevance, within a three-year strategic focus.

He started his career with ExxonMobil Nigeria in 1992 as a corps member and commenced his moulding into an International Consultant as a Senior Economist at the Sages Consult, a World Bank Resident Management Consulting Business Partner in Lagos, Nigeria.

He went on to spend over 10 years on Wall Street in New York City with Arthur Andersen as a Consultant in the CFO Advisory Group, Financial Controller at UBS Paine Webber and, as Senior Vice President, Finance and Operations at Thurgood Marshal College Fund in New York, USA. In 2008, he established the Haquad Group Incorporation in New York and purchased the Goin’ Postal Franchise Rights. He later became the managing director of the Management Consulting and Logistics Firm.

He is an experienced Senior Executive in the Energy and Power sector in Nigeria. He was appointed Chief Strategy Officer at Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) post-privatisation and in 2016, appointed General Manager at Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

At KEDCO and AEDC, he pioneered the Project Management Office (PMO) in 2014 for the Electricity Distribution Companies in Nigeria, a PMO benchmarked on Value Engineering Decisioneering which repositioned the new DisCos to execute change management portfolio seamlessly.

Before his new appointment, he was an Associate Director at the Energy Market and Regulatory Consultants (EMRC), the MRC Group, United Kingdom (UK), the industry leader in Energy and Power Consulting where he commenced the implementation of USAID Power Africa Project on Commercialisation Support to Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in Nigeria. Prior to his engagement at EMRC in 2018, he was a visiting Graduate Research Fellow at the University of Oxford and London School of Economics, UK.

He attended Methodist Boy’s High School, Lagos and earned a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Lagos, Nigeria in 1995. He received an MBA in Management from the University of Management and Technology, Virginia, USA in 2013 including a PhD in Project Management Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park, USA in 2019.

Quadri is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) and a Certified Professional in Energy Management. He has attended several executive professional courses at Harvard, Stanford and New York University. He is a member of various professional bodies in Nigeria, UK and USA.
