The Guardian Editor-in-Chief, Debo Adesina, 41 others named envoys

Nigeria

The Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian, the flagship of Nigerian media, and another former journalist from the stable, Mr Oma Djebah, are among the 41 non career ambassador-nominees whose names were forwarded today by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Senate for screening and confirmation as envoys.

Adesina and Djebah are from Oyo and Delta states respectively.

Also included in the list are a former Minister of State for Defence, Ademola Seriki from Lagos state and Mr. Dare Sunday Awoniyi (Kogi).

The President also sent the name of a career ambassador for screening and approval while he retained 11 serving non-career ambassadors and recalled 35 of them.

President Buhari’s request letter was read on the floor at plenary by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

He also urged the Upper Chamber to confirm Mr. Sulyman Sani as a career ambassador representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Sulyman’s nomination may not be unconnected with the protest by Senator Philip Aduda (FCT) that the territory was neglected in the earlier list of career ambassadors sent to the Senate for confirmation.
