A video clip has gone viral.
It comes with an explanation that goes like this: “Landing of a Cuban plane in Italy carrying doctors from the country of Fidel Castro.
All are blacks welcomed in “standing ovation” by whites. Who would have believed it ? The world will change after the Coronavirus!”
I honestly do not understand what the fuss is about!
America elected Barack Obama of Kenyan descent as President years ago. Anthony Joshua of Nigerian origin stood tall recently addressing the world in Westminster Abbey with the Queen of England and her family listening in rapt attention.
If doctors went from Cuba to help in Italy in view of the current coronavirus pandemic, then they should get accolades for lending a helping hand where help is needed; and this has nothing to do with the colour of their skin or whether or not that the ovation came from persons of a different race.
In fact, interpreting the video clip in terms of racial ascendancy suggests a lot that is unsavoury. We should be proud of who we are and what we do regardless of who expresses the appreciation.
We should rise above racism in all shapes and forms.
In reciprocity, may these Cuban doctors and all who lend a helping hand to mankind at this time of greatest need receive blessings and protection from above!
