Supreme Court Victory: Jubilant crowds welcome Aiyedatiwa to Akure

Jubilant crowds of supporters on Friday gave Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa a rousing welcome from Abuja back to Akure the state capital following his victory at the Supreme Court.

The tumultuous crowds, waving, singing and dancing, lined up the route, took over the roads and major streets leading to the Moshood Abiola Democracy Park at the popular Oja Oba Market in the heart of Akure, venue of the ecstatic reception.

Speaking at the occasion, the governor described the judiciary as the bedrock of society, noting that fairness, equity, and justice remain vital for sustaining democracy.

He expressed profound gratitude to God, the people of Ondo State, and all those who stood by him throughout the legal process.

Aiyedatiwa commended his legal team for their professionalism and the judiciary for delivering justice without fear or favour.

He also appreciated President Bola Tinubu for his leadership, stating that when a good leader steers the affairs of a nation, fairness and equity prevail.

His words, “I thank the people of Ondo State for entrusting us with their mandate and for standing by us during the election and the court process. This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every citizen of this state.”

Earlier in his goodwill message, the Director of Corporate Affairs of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, described the Governor’s triumph as a victory for the people, affirming that their votes were not wasted.

Also, former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abdulazeez Oluboyo, lauded the governor for making history by winning across all local government areas of the state, assuring the people of quality leadership and delivery of dividends of democracy under the Aiyedatiwa administration.

On her part, former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Omowumi Ohwovoriole, described the Supreme Court judgment as “the end of discussion” over the last election, expressing confidence that the Governor would usher in development, peace and tranquility in the State.

Dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami; First Lady, Mrs. Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa; Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji; Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa; members of the State Executive Council; APC stalwarts; local government and LCDA chairmen, among other eminent personalities.
