The Catholic priest, Michael Akawu, who was shot dead by suspected armed robbers was buried in Abuja on Saturday.
He was shopping at a supermarket in the Gwagwalada area of the Federal Capital Territory last week Saturday night when he was attacked by the hoodlums.
Tears flowed at Saints Simon and Jude Seminary Kuje, Abuja, where a funeral mass held for him before internment.
The Catholic Bishop of Abuja, John Onaiyekan, who ordained the deceased in 2017 could not hold back tears, just as many priests, family members and relatives wept.
Akawu, who was just 18 months in the priesthood, was until his death the assistant parish priest at Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Parish, Dobi, Abuja.
His body left the University Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, for Immaculate Conception Parish Dobi for a mass, from where it was taken to Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral, Garki, for three different masses of the wake.
He was subsequently buried at the priests’ burial ground at the Sts. Simon and Jude Minor Seminary, Kuje, Abuja.
